Wedding Hairstyles with Assistive Hearing Devices. As a photographer and a mother, my work has always been driven by the desire to tell stories that matter, but this latest project is especially close to my heart. My daughter, Gabby, is my inspiration. She has cochlear implants, and as she’s grown, I’ve seen firsthand how beauty standards can sometimes overlook girls like her. But Gabby is a beautiful, confident young girl, and I want the world to see that beauty shines brightly in all forms.
This is why I’ve embarked on a new journey—setting up sessions specifically designed to show how stunning women with cochlear implants and assistive hearing devices truly are. The wedding industry, in particular, can be a bit traditional in its standards, but I’m determined to open the door for more inclusivity, not just for Gabby but for all girls and women like her.
Through this session, I’m showcasing hairstyles that embrace cochlear implants and hearing aids, rather than hiding them. We’re celebrating them as part of who these women are, not something that needs to be concealed. Whether it’s elegant updos that show off the sleek design of the devices or soft, flowing curls that frame them naturally, we’re creating looks that say, “This is beautiful.”
For me, this is about more than photography. It’s about paving the way for Gabby, showing her that she belongs in every space, including the wedding industry she loves so much. I want her—and all women with cochlear implants or hearing aids—to know that they are just as deserving of being celebrated, admired, and embraced for who they are. Every click of my camera is a step toward a more inclusive and beautiful industry, one that recognizes the strength and grace in every woman, regardless of how she hears the world.
This journey is personal, but it’s also a calling. If we can change how women with assistive hearing devices are seen—if we can make them feel celebrated and beautiful—then we’re doing something that really matters. And that, to me, is the most rewarding part of this entire experience. For Gabby, for the women I photograph, and for the countless girls who will grow up knowing they are perfect just as they are, this is only the beginning.
