West Michigan Photographer // Made My Week – Vol 41!
I’m not sure if you knew it or not, but we have an awesome team! It’s always amazing to me to think that just a few years ago, Joe and I were shooting every wedding together….just the two of us trying to make something out of our little dream. Now, in 2014, we have an associate photographer program, two dedicated second shooters and an office assistant. Thank goodness for all of these wonderful wonderful people we get to work with. They make the long days and little sleep that much more fun!
Now that our company is growing at crazy rates, we decided that it would be a good idea to do annual (maybe bi-annual) workshops to get better at shooting different parts of the wedding day. We focused our first training on reception details and posing a couple. Teaching is a new skill that I have yet to master, so it was a challenge to me..and I loved it!
Michelle, from Red Heels Events, designed this gorgeous table for us. She is a local wedding planner/designer and a good friend of mine. Don’t you just want to sit down and eat a nice meal here? We did!
We talked about how light moves across an image and what vantage point you want to have to show off the details in their best light.
Michelle talked with us about why details are so important to photograph well and why they shouldn’t be an afterthought….. There are SO many reasons!
The whole look is important….but individual details are special too..
Yum! Have you tried the peanut butter banana cake from The Cakabakery yet? Well…I have…like ten times and it’s always amazing!
After photographing the details, we went and met up with this cute couple to talk about posing.
Becky & Todd were adorable, so they were pretty easy to photograph to start. They even celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary the day before!
While wandering around the woods, we talked about ways to have the couple look more natural and less posed. Some posing is almost always necessary, but less is more in my opinion for this situation!
Our training day went great and I can’t wait to do it again! Our team’s dedication and hard work definitely made our week! Next week check back right here b/c we will need YOUR help! We will be posting a few favorite images taken by our associate and we need your votes. The lady with the most votes wins a gift card from us!
