Tips & Ideas

Oh guys….I don’t even know where to begin with this special day. Kyrie and Andy were so much fun to be around. I still can’t believe that we were lucky enough to be such a small part of their day. Wedding photography in any location is special but taking photos for a couple at Pictured Rocks National Lakesure in the Upper Peninsula is something out of a fairytale…a very, very cold fairytale.

Kyrie started out as my daughter’s friend’s mom. Soon after that she became my hair stylist and quickly became a friend. When she started talking about possibly eloping in the UP I all but invited myself haha! I mean….who wouldn’t want to be a part of something so magical?!

Kyrie’s ring is a family heirloom from Andy’s side. I love sweet things like that!

So what’s up with the quarters…right?! Well, once Andy’s mom found out that they would be eloping, she gathered the Pictured Rocks quarters for them as a sweet memento.

Goodness I love those boots!

Kyrie – the “Yooper Bride”!

Their ceremony was seriously so sweet. We were hoping for sunshine that day but I think the wind and huge waves made the day even more special. No one could hear their words but the three of them and the good Lord above 🙂

It was one of those special moments where my eyes filled with tears and I counted on my auto focus to pull me through!

This photo was quite a feat! The waves were probably five foot waves that day but Andy and Kyrie were brave and hopped on that tree trunk for this image…I think it was worth it! (The day before when we were location scouting, the waves were barely touching the roots….!)

Gorgeous bride!

Lake Superior water is so blue!

Sweet Viv and her momma.

I found this waterfall and fell in love. I loved it because it was one of the only ones that you could walk behind and get close to. SO pretty!

Kyrie’s long, simple cathedral veil with her short dress was so fun. I love how it added a little playfulness to the images.

I am SO glad that Joe and I (and our two girls in tow) decided to scout locations the day before. If we hadn’t then we wouldn’t have found this gorgeous and secluded lake!

Kyrie said that she loves Birch trees so those were on my list to find!

This photo on the left with the leaves is for Viv. She just had to throw some 😉

My biggest tip when shooting an elopement in a new location is to give yourself plenty of time. I messaged Andy and Kyrie the night before asking to meet us an hour earlier and I’m so glad we did. We would have run out of light if I hadn’t. Also, scout locations. If we would have just went off of the local maps then we wouldn’t have found these beautiful places….only waterfalls that you couldn’t get close to and places filled with people. Taking the extra time is beyond worth it!

Goodness, those colors, the reflection and those smiles 🙂

Girlfriend, you are stunning! I hope you know that!

Andy & Kyrie – Congratulations! Thank you SO much for asking me to make the trip wayyy up north with you to celebrate with you. Taking your photos was such an honor to me. I hope you cherish these for decades to come!

xoxo – Kellie
